The Office of the Accountant-General (OAG) within the National Treasury is divided into four Chief Directorates, namely National Accounts, Accounting Services, Risk Management and Internal Audit.

Part of the responsibility of the Chief Directorate: National Accounts is to provide a banking service to all National Departments and other approved entities via the Paymaster-General (PMG) Office.

The Safetyweb Banking System has been in production since 15 November 2002. Since implementation some departments moved away from the SITA shared network (Govnet) onto their own networks. Due to SITA’s security policies, departments on their own networks can not easily access applications within Govnet. 

To continue the support to the various account holders, within SITA’s security policies, the Safetyweb Banking System has been web enabled.
